How To Start Marketing In a Niche

Okay, you found a niche market that you want to create an information product in. What’s one of the best ways to start marketing in the niche?

Start by promoting your competitors products and building an email list. Keep in mind this will only work if it’s the type of niche market that allows you to build customer relationships. There are some markets where building a list simply will not work because the customers are one-time buyers.

The first thing I do is set up a opt-in page and create around 5-7 newsletter messages designed to promote one or several Clickbank products in my niche. You can then use an autoresponder service such as www.Aweber.com to capture email addresses and automatically send your newsletter out to your leads on specific days. Aweber is one of the most commonly used Autoresponder services. I’ve been using their services for two years now and have been pleased with it so far.

Here are a few reasons why you want to start by building a list first in your niche:

1. You will learn how much of a demand there is in your niche. If you have basic copywriting skills you should be able to make sales simply by promoting products with your newsletter.  If not, it may be a good indication you’re in a dead market and may need move on to a more profitable niche.

2. While you are spending time researching and creating your product, you are building a list of potential buyers for your product when it becomes ready to launch. It may take you several months to create your own product, by that time you could have hundreds of valuable leads.

3. You can start making money right away. The affiliate commissions you earned could possibly fund all of your information product creation expenses.

4. Your list will help you procure JV partners. It’s easier to get other JV partners to work with you when you have a list of your own.

If you are not sure what to write for your own newsletter then get on your competitors lists to get some great ideas. Also be sure to check out what promotional tools and content they are offering for their affiliate programs. Often times if your competitor has a great affiliate program they will give you the newsletter content!

I have a website in the “learn to play guitar” niche and I was blown away the other day when I checked out the affiliate program for http://www.jamorama.com They’re basically giving you a killer free report, banner ads, product images, adwords keywords, free guitar lesson giveaways. There was enough free content available to create a killer authority website on learning to play guitar. All I would have to do is put the content together and create the site.

So I encourage you, follow this strategy to building a base in your niche market. It’s a smart way to become established in your market while you’re working on creating your own product.
